TIRE OPTIONS FOR OFF-ROAD USE

ALL-TERRAIN TIRES

Add rugged looks, durability, and everyday dependability to your SUV or light truck with a set of All-Terrain tires. While they might not be the best choice for extreme off-roading, they’re perfect for back-country gravel roads, snowy conditions, sandy beaches, as well as quiet everyday commutes.

MUD-TERRAIN & ROUGH/RUGGED TIRES

When you face mud, dirt, gravel, hardpack, rock, and extreme off-road conditions, Mud-Terrain (MT) tires, also known as Rough/Rugged-Terrain (RT) tires, offer the best traction and add some incredibly aggressive looks to any vehicle. You’ll have what you need to go just about anywhere your rig will take you thanks to specialized tread patterns first invented by the U.S. military.

OFF-ROAD TIRES AT LES SCHWAB

The truck, SUV, Jeep, or crossover you drive is only part of the equation when it comes to off-road capabilities. It’s the tires that help you climb, grip, and navigate rocks, gravel, mud, ruts, and most weather conditions.

At Les Schwab, we know a thing or two about off-roading and the tires you’ll need to tackle just about anything in your way. When you’re negotiating Forest Service roads and campsites, as well trips to the store, All-Terrain (AT) tires could be the perfect fit. For more extreme conditions, including rock crawling, Rugged-Terrain (RT) and Mud-Terrain (MT) tires are ideal options.

Tackle the road ahead with All-Terrain or Mud-Terrain Tires at Les Schwab.

OFF-ROAD TIRES FAQS

AT (all-terrain) and MT (mud-terrain) tires are specially designed for different terrains. AT tires are far more aggressive than HT (highway tires) but provide less traction in mud and off-road driving than a set of MT tires. MT tires give you traction in extreme off-road conditions, including dirt, mud, gravel, and rock.

Both AT (all-terrain) and MT (mud-terrain) tires are designed for off-road conditions. While they can be driven on paved roads, that is not the intended purpose of MT tires. In addition to a noisy ride and less-than-ideal handling on pavement, driving on the highway for any distance with a set of MT tires could lead to excessive tire wear.

The tread life of a set of off-road tires depends on the conditions they encounter. Additionally, durability is subject to the quality and build of the tires along with the rocks and obstacles the tires must traverse.

When navigating rutted gravel roads or sandy beaches, AT (all-terrain) tires can be a great option. For mud, dirt, gravel, hardpack, rock, and other extreme off-road conditions, MT (mud-terrain) tires are a good choice. The right size tires can be found in your vehicle owner’s manual or the driver’s side door placard. Additionally, time, weather, and vehicle maintenance (tire rotations, air pressure checks, alignments) can play a role in the lifespan of a set of tires.
