Bridging the Hunger Gap: How New Tires Help Deliver Fresh Food

Access to fresh, healthy food shouldn’t be a challenge. But for some communities, grocery stores are miles away, making everyday essentials hard to reach. That’s where the Eat Well Sioux Falls Mobile Market steps in—bringing healthy, affordable food directly to neighborhoods that need it most.

 

Since 2023, the mobile market, a project of Sioux Falls Thrive, has worked to close the hunger gap in Sioux Falls, where an estimated 7,000 kids live in households that struggle to put adequate food on the table.

Keeping the mobile market rolling requires safe, reliable transportation—and through our new Les Schwab Tires for Purpose donation program, our Sioux Falls team installed a brand-new set of tires on the truck that tows the mobile market.

The tires were installed at the Sioux Falls Les Schwab Tires store on May 31, 2024, during the store’s grand opening event, complete with music, prizes and local goodies. The mobile market was on site for the event, and an additional $475 in gift cards were donated by Les Schwab for Sioux Falls Thrive to give to community members who shop with them.

“We’re so glad to be a part of the Sioux Falls community,” said Store Manager Cameron Fahl. “We’re all about great service at Les Schwab Tires, and that includes service to our neighbors.”

Tires for Purpose is a newly launched initiative that donates new tires to organizations that are helping our locals, keeping them on the road to do more good. Interested non-profits are invited to apply at lesschwab.com/tiresforpurpose.
